Obon Festival
Japantown celebrates the San Jose Obon festival, a time when generations of families and friends come together and enjoy a rich cultural experience in one of the three remaining Japantowns in the United States. Japantown’s largest festival with two days of game booths, food booths, the Chidori Band, three taiko performances each day including San Jose Taiko and over 1,200 dancers in colorful traditional festive wear each evening.

Nihonmachi Annual San Jose Day of Remembrance
In the days following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the FBI rounded up thousands of Japanese immigrants who were detained without charges. Then, on February 19, 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, forcing 120,000 Japanese Americans into concentration camps.
