Our Future on a Shared Planet: Silicon Valley in Conversation with the Environmental Teachings of Pope Francis
Headlining the conference will be Cardinal Peter Turkson, the Ghanian Cardinal who is president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Cardinal Turkson is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential Vatican experts on the contents of the historic encyclical document, Laudato Si, as well as a close adviser to Pope Francis during the drafting of the encyclical.
In addition to a planned keynote by Cardinal Turkson the afternoon of Nov. 3, there will be a Multi-faith Response to the Encyclical that will include:
- Episcopal Rev. Sally Bingham, Interfaith Power and Light
- Rabbi Allan Berkowitz, executive director of Environmental Volunteers
- Ameena Jandali, co-founder of Islamic Network Group
- Lida Cutts, Abbess of the San Francisco Zen Center
The conference will continue November 4, and sessions will address:
- The Science Behind the Encyclical
- How Politics Can and Should Respond to the Encyclical
- How Corporations Can Heed the Encyclical’s Call
- What the Encyclical Can Teach Silicon Valley
