Bells of Peace Initiative

… in November we will recall that day of November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m. when the guns went silent, and the bells rang out around the world announcing the peace.

To the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council–

As one of the Co-Directors of the California World War One Centennial Task Force (resolved by the legislature of the State of California,) and an acknowledged representative to the state of California from the U.S. World War One Centennial Commission established by Congress in 2013,  I respectfully offer this introduction and invitation to your office.

As you may now realize the United States is currently part of the worldwide commemorations of the war’s one-hundredth anniversary, and in November we will recall that day of November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m. when the guns went silent, and the bells rang out around the world announcing the peace.

It is my privilege, in following through with the motto of the California World War One Centennial Task Force of honoring, commemorating, and educating, to ask you to include all of your members to join us in re-enacting the ringing of the bells on that remarkable day.

The “Bells of Peace” program of a Nationwide Bell-Tolling on November 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. will honor the 116,516 American men & women who died in WWI, and the thousands of others who served. Our hope is to remind our citizens of the price paid for our freedoms and the peace of the world.  We hope the appreciation of that sacrifice is not forgotten.

My colleagues and I at the Centennial Task Force hope that we can count on your support of this historic event in light of the support our forefathers gave to the effort one hundred years ago.

For even more information please visit the Bells of Peace webpage at: https://www.worldwar1centennial.org/commemorate/event-map-system/bells-of-peace-a-world-war-i-remembrance.html , and take a look at our state website at WW1CC.org/California   We are also in the process of trying to get the Governor to issue a Proclamation calling on all groups with Bells to ring them throughout the state on November 11th.

I look forward to hearing from your office soon as preparations do need to be made as soon as possible. Feel free to contact me at my personal cell number which is (323)868-7574

Sincerely,

Courtland Jindra

Peaceful Presence: Prayers for Peace

In the midst of difficult times, Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice will host “Peaceful Presence,” a monthly prayer service on the evening of the 11th of each month, offering a time of quiet multifaith prayers for peace and strength for the journey.  All are welcome: those of all faith traditions and of no defined faith, those who are suffering at the hands of their own government, those who need a pause in the midst of intensive work on behalf of others, and all who would like to pray with others for the well-being of all.  The prayer time will include elements from several religious traditions.

Each month we will meet at a different place of worship.

A New Map for Relationships: Creating True Love at Home and Peace on the Planet

Dorothie and Martin Hellman, authors of A New Map for Relationships: Creating True Love at Home and Peace on the Planet, will tell how they transformed an almost failed marriage into one where they reclaimed the true love that they felt when they first met fifty years ago. They will also explain why the lessons they learned are the same ones the nations of the world need to grasp to build a more peaceful, sustainable planet.

Dorothie Hellman was trained as a CPA and worked at Touche Roos – now Deloitte. In the 1980s she was VP for Financial Support at the Beyond War Foundation.

Martin Hellman is a Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He shared the 2016 Turing Award for his pioneering work on public-key cryptography.

Inaugurate Peace!

Meditation with Yogacharya Ellen Grace O’Brian

Join us for a time of meditation and inspiration as we reflect upon the rising tide of hope for peace at this time in our nation and the necessary transformation of our hearts and minds to bring it forth. We all want peace, first within our hearts, then within our family, then to our community, then across our nation and into the world. Our Inaugurate Peace noon meditation program is offered as a support for this.

This event is offered freely. All are welcome.
