06/20 10am Faith Leader March in San Jose

Dear Clergy and Faith Leaders,

Faith Leaders March

“Reckoning with our Past and Embracing our Future Together”

https://flm2020.weebly.com/

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

To express the faith community’s solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement by acknowledging various denominations’ and traditions’ complicity in sustaining racism and validating white privilege and by historical extension stances and current policies regarding homo/transphobia, misogyny, white American nationalism, single-issue politics, etc.

The proposed prayer is a silent/listening/witnessing prayer in which participants will walk from Temple Emanu-EL to Antioch Baptist Church. Along the way, participants will pause at predetermined locations to pray. In between locations, participants will take on a reflective mood by walking in silence.

VALUES

We are responding to the call of Dr. King (see Letter From the Birmingham Jail)

We are not truly free unless all are free.

We SUPPORT the Beloved Community’s efforts and campaign in law enforcement accountability

We will witness without comment or respond to what those who are directly affected by racism are saying unless asked

We confess our complicity (individually and institutionally) to the oppression of Black People by what we have done and what we have failed to do

We stand in unequivocal solidarity with Black Lives Matter Movement

Water Is Life: Marking World Water Day March 15 — WILPF

Water is Life Water is everywhere. What is our relationship to it?

Water is Life Water is everywhere, in our bodies, in our world. Water is the original source of life and all life contains water. Of all the water on our world only 2.5% is freshwater. And of that 69% is in glaciers, 30% in groundwater and only one third of one percent (.3%) in renewable supplies in lakes and waterways. So little. And yet we pollute it with inadequate sanitation, with industrial and military waste and with our lack of care in using water as a dumping ground.

Rowan Fairgrove and Patrick Ferraro will discuss local, regional and global water issues and then, using Appreciative Inquiry we will discuss our relationship to water in small groups.

This is one of US WILPF’s solidarity events to commemorate World Water Day on March 22. We are marking World Water Day a week early, on March 15.

International Holocaust Remembrance at San Jose City Hall

On January 27, 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, was liberated. In 2005, the United Nations declared January 27 International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Council members Chappie Jones and Sergio Jimenez, with Mayor Sam Liccardo, will present a proclamation to local survivor Tamara Noten, during the Ceremonial Items at the beginning of the council meeting.

The community is invited to the council chambers for this brief but moving ceremony.

On the 10th year of this international remembrance, we especially remember the survivor and messenger of peace, Elie Wiesel. Wiesel spoke at the first-ever observance at the U.N., and he spent his life calling for vigilance in combatting anti-Semitism and all manifestations of religious intolerance or violence based on ethnic origin, whenever they occur.

Free validated parking in City Hall parking garage.
