The first week of February each year is designated as World Interfaith Harmony Week, “when all interfaith groups and other groups of goodwill can show the world what a powerful movement they are.” Its goals are to highlight Love of God and Love of the Neighbor and/or Love of the Good and Love of the Neighbor. Here are eight things you can do during this week:
Specific Days:
- Feb. 1: Plant a Creek: Permanente Creek Planting at Google Campus, Acterra Stewardship Program, Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM (PST), Mountain View, CA – please sign up at Eventbright
- Feb. 5: Explore the Role & Responsibility of Faith Communities for a Compassionate Society at the SiVIC Religious Leaders Forum, 11:30am-1:00PM, Pacifica Institute, 1257 Tasman Dr #B, Sunnyvale, CA 94089. The forum will be led by SiVIC Board members, Mahmut Altun & Garth Pickett; lunch will be provided. RSVP at rsvp@sivicouncil.org please. All are welcome.
- Feb. 7: Feed the Homeless: serve dinner at InnVision Shelter (Montgomery Street Inn) with Pacifica Institute (about 100 people to be served). Meet at 3:30 pm at Pacifica Institute for a discussion & plan for serving, leave for the shelter at 4:45 pm, and serve meals from 6:00 pm onwards. RSVP for this event at rsvp@sivicouncil.org.
All Week:
- Join the Virtual March for Unity by liking “Global March for Humanity” on Facebook and encouraging your friends to do likewise.
- Collect Materials for the Disabled: Collect items for Abilities United which supports children and adults with disabilities. Bring the items to Feb 5th event (see above) or Feb 7th event at Pacifica Institute. Suggested items: large industrial pot, rice cooker, baking dishes, blender, bowls, cutting boards, serving spoons, Costco boxes of forks and spoons (disposable), large deep pan.
- Recycle Your Electronic Waste: drop off your electronic waste at the Jain Center, 722 N. Main St, Milpitas, CA 95035. Temple hours: M-F – 7:00am-1:30PM, 6:30pm-9:00pm, S-S: 8:00am-9:00PM.
- Play Compassion Games – By January 31st, sign up to be a “Secret Agent of Compassion” on the Compassion Games website: Secret Agent Sign up. Then accept your assignment for compassion actions from Feb 1 to 7. Report your actions by clicking Here.
- Sign up for “Sun-Up Our Sanctuaries” Program which will encourage and support efforts to convert local religious sanctuaries to solar power. Let us know of your interest by writing to solar@sivicouncil.org. Check back for more details.
