Individual Activities:

  • Join the Virtual March for Unity by liking Global March for Humanity on Facebook and encouraging your friends to do likewise. Post your thoughts.
  • Play Compassion Games: By September 9, 2015 sign up to be a “Secret Agent of Compassion” on the Compassion Games website: Secret Agent Sign up. Then accept your assignment for compassion actions from Sept. 11 to Sept. 21. Report your action & your reflections by email to: CG2015@sivicouncil.org.
  • Visit the Empathy Exhibition – (9/2 through 9/12 – 11:00AM-5:00PM) – Presented by Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. “Empathy” is discussed not only in the arts and humanities, but also in Silicon Valley, Stanford’s d.school, and the latest neuroscience. We share a deep need to walk in the shoes of another. This exhibition traces the meaning and practice of empathy through artistic representations of Buddhist compassion, Christianity’s commandment to love our neighbor, Enlightenment moral philosophy, and Civil Rights-era photography. Group Activities:

  • September 10: Participate in SiVIC Religious Leaders Forum hosted by the Jain Center, topic: Annual Sacred Celebrations, How it Promotes Compassion, Forgiveness, Tolerance, & Pluralism, Forum will be led by Kamlesh Mehta, Jain Center President and Rowan Fairgrove, Wiccan, 11:30AM-1:00PM, At Jain Center, 722 S Main Street, Milpitas, CA 95035 Lunch will be served by Jain Center after the event. Open to Public.
  • September 11: Participate in Multi-faith Peace Picnic organized by Dave Cortese, President, Board of Supervisors and American Muslim Voice Foundation, Co-Sponsored by SiVIC & Others. 5:30PM-7:30PM, At James McEntee Plaza, 70 West Hedding St, San Jose, CA 95110.   • September 12: Volunteer for Heritage Rose Garden Maintenance Organized by Guadalupe River park Conservancy. 8:30AM-11:30AM, At Taylor Street & Spring Street (near Coleman Avenue), San Jose, CA.  (www.grpg.org/river-park-gardens/heritage-rose-garden/), Just show up- no registration required.

  • September 20: Volunteer for Creek Cleanup: Guadalupe Creek between Grant Ave. and Edwards Ave. – Sponsored by Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) as part of the California Coastal Cleanup Day, 1:00pm-4:00pm , Meet at the creek ramp across the street from 696 Palm St. Gloves and trash-recycle bags will be provided.  Street parking available on Palm St. and nearby streets.   • September 21: Participate in the United Nations International Day of Peace Celebration – Peace Pole Dedication in memory of Rev.
