DONATION APPEAL TO SUPPORT HOMELESS FAMILIES

| Donate to Support Homeless families in SCC with survival Supplies to bear the harsh winter that is coming. Your donation will be matched by SiVIC Board Chair (up to $10,000) doubling the impact of your donation. Click to donate: These donations will be used to purchase survival supplies (e.g. sleeping bags, tarps, blankets, hygiene kits, etc.). The distribution will take place on December 17, 2022 by our volunteers at various encampments assuring delivery to the needy. It will also include meal packets. As depicted in the Tomb Stone, last year, 250 people died in the streets of the county. Hopefully, these supplies will increase their chance of survival through the winter. PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY. ============================================= Homeless Persons’ Interfaith Memorial Service will take place (In-person and Facebook Live on Dec. 21, 2022). Meals & Survival Supplies Distribution on December 17, 2022 at Encampment Sites. Come honor the lives of our sisters and brothers who died without homes in our community, and bring awareness to the ongoing tragedy of homelessness. Join leaders and choirs from San Jose’s diverse religious traditions in prayers, reflections, song, and reading the names of those who died without homes in the past year in our community. This year the event will be a Hybird event with In-Person Service and virtually Facebook Live on December 21, 2022 at Noon at at McEntee Plaza, SCC County Bldg. On December 17, 2021, the distribution of Survival Supplies and meal packets will take place at different encampments as a part of this program. Go to SiVIC Event page for more info. International Day of Nonviloence (Ahimsa)
The Jain Center of Northern California (a SiVIC Affiliate) observed the International Day of Nonviolence (Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday) by serving some 2200 freshly cooked Vegan meals to unhoused population during October 1 to 3 through out Santa Clara County to promote nonviolence in Food (Ahimsa Mels). SiVIC partnered with them to distribute these meal packets by bringing together homeless advocate groups (AGAPE, Hope4theUnhoused, Opening Doors, PitStopOutreach, SV Homeless Union,), shelters, Arham Youth Seva, and Santa Clara University students who all went to encampments and distributed the meal boxes. Number of volunteers involved in this whole effort exceeded 150 expending some 750 person-hours. This was part of the National effort of Jains to promote Ahimsik (Nonviolent) Meals.
